Find out which is the required visa to study in Denmark.

The document that permits foreign students to attend university in Denmark is called a “residence permit” instead of a “student visa.” Be aware of this, even using the words for this article. So, who needs a residence permit?

  • European Union/EEA and Switzerland residents must apply for an EU residency document rather than a permit to reside.
  • Non-EU/EEA, as well as Switzerland citizens, must apply for a residence permit.

When and where do I apply for a students visa?

You may apply for the residence permit through the Official New to Denmark website.

The best time to begin applying for a residence permit is three months before your expected arrival date. When you consider that certain documents have to be sealed, signed, and delivered or biometrics have to be provided, the total time and duration of processing can vary depending on your nationality.

For example, it can take up to up to 60 days for the data to be processed If the country you’re in is

  • India
  • The U.S.
  • Canada
  • Iran
  • Indonesia
  • Egypt
  • Bangladesh
  • Philippines

However, sure students may have to wait six months or more If they’re from:

  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Kenya
  • Ghana

Also, as we’re talking about duration, be aware you have a residence permit valid throughout all of the time you take your course so that you won’t have unexpected visits to the municipal hall.

If you are an international student, you’re permitted to perform work within Denmark under the following legal guidelines:

  • Nordic and EU/EEA Swiss citizens can work in Denmark without restriction in terms of hours.

Permits to this level of work are given automatically by your residence permits.

Conditions you must fulfill to get the residence permit.
